Rock a Power Lunch Like a Boss

You may not have the Lexus or BMW, be perpetually tuned in to Bloomberg, or be able tell someone to “calendarize a meeting to circle back on the action terms so we can circle the wagons” (let alone know what that means), but by God, you can eat like a CEO! Now, unless you’re channeling Mark Zuckerberg, here’s a rundown of typical power lunches you can try that are fit for any captain of industry:
Steak Ah yes. The pièce de résistance of any power lunch is a beautifully marbled , incredibly textured, eight ounce slab of beefy goodness. You know you have steak fit for a CEO when the meat is tender and still has its natural juiciness and flavor. Aside from that, look out for a hint of smokiness, and a seasoning that has a nice, salty and peppery kick.
Rack of Lamb If you have the appetite of a trucker and want to splurge a bit, treat yourself to roasted New Zealand rack of lamb. Cooked perfectly, it’s tender and succulent on the inside, and has a crispy and flavorful crust of garlic, mustard, rosemary and other herbs and spices on the outside. Best clear your space of any papers or items that you don’t want soiled because you’re going to want to eat this bad boy with your hands.
Fish If you’d rather not pay a visit to your cardiologist anytime soon, white meat may be the better choice for you. Seafood is another favorite of head honchos, and you can take your pick from salmon, swordfish, halibut, or Chilean sea bass, whether baked, broiled, or pan seared. Served with a side of veggies, like asparagus or eggplant, or maybe something a little heavier like roasted potatoes, fish is great if you don’t plan to use your health insurance anytime soon. You don’t have to make reservations at some swanky restaurant to eat like a CEO. Even ordering in and enjoying a lip-smacking power lunch with rest of the team can make you feel like a big shot. So, what’s your idea of a power lunch?

The Top Three Fall Comfort Food You Can’t Go Wrong With

Whether it’s the big, fat juicy burger you told your wife you’ve only had one of this week, or the pint of Ben & Jerry’s Red Velvet Cake you’ve hidden at the back of the freezer behind the whole chicken, admit it – there’s that secret comfort food you really can't get enough of! There’s no better time to dig into comfort food than in the fall, when the days get shorter and colder, and you get to ball yourself up in a corner with a steaming hot bowl/plate/cup of goodness that warms you right up. And what better place to get comfort than the office, where time stands still and deadlines never seem to end? Here’s a rundown of some of the best types of food to order in for a dose of cheer at work: Chicken Pot Pie Now those are three magical words that can transport you to back to grandma’s kitchen as you were growing up in the 60’s (or the 70’s, for those in denial). You’ve got juicy chicken, fresh vegetables, creamy sauce, and a rich crust – that’s a little pocket of heaven right there.
Lasagna Say it like an Italian. “La-SAN-ya!” The Italians definitely got it right when they decided to get sheets of pasta and stuff it with tomato sauce, beef, sausages, garlic, and onions, and drizzle that with glorious ricotta, mozzarella and parmesan cheese. These just explode into a flurry of flavor in your mouth and warm up your belly after a morning spent crunching numbers. How could that not comfort you?
Texas-Style Chili A "Bowl o’ Red," as Texans call it, steaming with meat (no beans!), tomatoes and dried Chipotle, Ancho, or Pasilla chilis. Pair it with Fritos, cornbread muffins, or a good ol’ grilled cheese sandwich to really hit the spot on a cold fall day at the office! Other than the rich flavor, the spice really packs a punch that’ll keep things interesting while you draft that report.
So, what’s your favorite comfort food this fall?
